The story
Cherie Giampietro is the ceramic artist behind Ceramic Design by Cherie, working from her home studio in Farmington, Maine. She also teaches clay at Ticonic Gallery + Studios at Waterville Creates. Born and raised in Delaware, Cherie first discovered the art of centering clay at the Dover Art League shortly after college, in 1994. Since moving to Maine in 2012, her organic style has evolved, inspired by the natural shapes, hues, and patterns she discovers while exploring the woods surrounding her home. Cherie thoughtfully creates functional pottery with an emphasis on calming colors, gentle glaze patterns, and the beauty of natural materials. She works with stoneware, found objects, and raw ingredients to create her own glazes and slips. Recently, she has been exploring new techniques, including wood firing, image transfers, and raku.
